Special Educational Needs

St. Helen’s  Church of England Primary School  is  an inclusive, happy school, providing equal opportunities and a broad and balanced curriculum for all, regardless of

gender, race, creed or ability.

Our vision is clear and is deeply rooted in our Christian faith, linked to the Church of England's Vision for Education and we believe that every child has individual and unique needs.

Educating for dignity and respect: the basic principle of respect for the value and preciousness of each person, treating each person as a unique individual of inherent worth.

Church of Englands Vision for Education 2016

Enabling children with SEND to flourish in all aspects of school life is essential to this mission.

We recognise that  as a school we need to ensure that the school's curriculum is accessible to all children, is inclusive and differentiated, and offers children the opportunity to develop their true potential in a supportive environment.

We strive to meet the needs of all pupils within our school. All staff are aware of SEND within the school and receive high quality information and training. We aim to quickly identify pupils, who are making limited progress and provide targeted interventions and support to meet their needs. We ensure that parents are fully aware and involved in the SEND process and are informed of their child’s learning at regular points throughout the year. We are a fully inclusive school and work alongside the Local Authority, Health Professionals and community organisations to find the most appropriate and effective support for pupils within our care.

Accessibility Plan

The accessibility plan has been guided by Schedule 10, relating to Disability, of the Equality Act 2010 and the principles of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) as amended by the SEN and Disability Act 2001.

As defined by the Equality Act, we understand a person with a disability to be identified as follows: 'A person who has physical or mental impairment that has a 'substantial' and 'long-term' negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities'.

You can view Accessibility Plan by clicking here.

Inclusion and Special Educational Needs

We are committed to be fully inclusive where all members of our school are treated fairly and equally. By working in partnership with children, families and partner agencies, we ensure that all children receive the support they need to access all aspects of school life. We respect each child as an individual and have high expectations and aspirations for all.
